Newborn Welcome Guide

WELCOME to the Click Portrait Art Family, and THANK YOU for choosing Click to capture the the moments of your first weeks of your baby’s life!  We understand that portraits of your family are an investment, and we take our job very seriously to give you an end product that fills you with joy and emotion.

This guide will walk you through all of the details you need to prepare for your newborn session.  So, read up!  We can’t wait to work with you and create some amazing portrait art!

Preparing for your Session

My preference is to photograph newborns undressed. If you prefer that your newborn wears a diaper, it will look best if you have a nice diaper cover to cover the distracting diaper logos.  If you have a special outfit that you would like your baby photographed in, we can do that as well.  Doing a session with a naked newborn is challenging, but yields beautiful results. Newborns are accustomed to the warmth of mommy’s womb, so being unclothed is often a bit unsettling to them. We will likely need to take many breaks to warm baby with a blanket or such, so please bring your favorite blanket to assist with this task.

Preparing your Home
Newborn babies are used to being all snuggled up in mom’s belly, so if we can keep them nice and warm, they will be so much happier!  Crank up the heat about an hour before your scheduled time and we’ll make sure it’s nice and toasty.

Please feed baby before Kortney arrives.  It’s best to feed with baby undressed with diaper and loosely swaddled so we can get started shooting at our earliest opportunity!

What to Wear

Things to Know About Your Session

Please be ready for your session to begin at your scheduled time. Kortney will arrive about 20-30 minutes early to set up.  Newborn sessions require a great deal of time and patience, and if we are late getting started, we will most certainly not accomplish everything we need to.  Newborn sessions usually last around 2 hours.

I always work at the pace of your baby and I do not like to rush newborn sessions.  We will likely need to take a feeding breaks, as well as breaks to comfort baby.  This is expected, so no stress.  Sometimes babies just don’t cooperate, in which case we will swaddle baby with a pretty wrap.

Speaking of wraps, if you have any special blankets, hats or keepsakes, please have those ready.

When your newborn is undressed, it is very normal for him or her to “relieve” him or herself on mom, dad or the backdrop.  Please have baby wipes, diapers and a towel/burp cloths readily available.

Playing soft music can help bring a peaceful environment, therefore, I have a collection of music to play during your session.  You are more than welcome to bring a CD of your own.

Please have only those who are to be photographed present.  Also, cameras and other recording devices are not permitted.

The balance of your session fee will be due at the conclusion of your session.  The session fee is payable by cash, check, Mastercard or Visa.

Sessions with older Siblings

When shooting a newborn session, I will focus on the newborn, but will include images of the entire family as well as images of older siblings with the family’s new addition.  If you’d like to focus on your older child(ren) as well, I recommend you schedule a separate session for them.  It is a lot to ask young kids to cooperate for such a long session with their new baby brother or sister.

What to Expect After your Session

Now what?  Your session is done and you can’t wait to see your images.  We are excited to share them with you!
  • Give us a little bit of time – a week or two to get everything edited for you to view.  Amazing images take time, so we appreciate your patience.  We will post a sneak peek on Facebook and/or our blog to tide you over, and PLEASE feel free to share your sneak peek with everyone you know!  (Ask us about our referral program!)
  • We’ll present your images to you in an online image gallery.  It will be password protected, but you can share with anyone you like.  Your images will be full edited, and you can order right from the gallery to make things easy for you!
  • You can expect around 10-12 images to choose from if you’ve booked a Mini Session.  If you’ve booked a Click Signature session, you’ll have at least 25.
  • VERY IMPORTANT- once we post your images in the online gallery, this gallery will be available for 1 week.  Should you need additional time, there is a $50 fee per week to keep the gallery online.  It helps us run our business more efficiently so that we can focus on what we love best – creating amazing photography.  So please, please help us out!
  • We’re happy to give you our assistance when you’re choosing your images.  Just let us know.
  • All orders will be shipped directly to you
